Application for Singapore Citizenship
Eligibility:
The following categories of person are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship:
- Persons who are at least 21 years of age and are Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) for at least 2 - 6 years immediately prior to the date of application.
- PRs who have satisfactorily completed full-time National Service (NS).
- Spouses of Singapore Citizens who have been Singapore PRs for at least two years immediately preceding the date of application.
- Minors (below 21 years old) born in Singapore but who are not Singapore citizens.
- Minors born outside Singapore but are residing permanently in Singapore, and whose parents are Singapore citizens.
- Child born outside Singapore whose father is a Singapore citizen. The application has to be made within one year from the date of birth of the child. (In the case where the father is a Singapore citizen by registration, documentary evidence indicating that the child has no claim to the citizenship of the country where the birth occurred must be produced at time of application.) *
- Child born outside Singapore whose mother is a Singapore citizen. All applicants for citizenship must be of good character, have satisfied the residential requirement and have the intention to reside permanently in Singapore. They must also be able to support themselves and their dependants financially. *
Applications can be submitted to one of our overseas missions, or in person at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority.
APPLICATION FOR SINGAPORE CITIZENSHIP:-
(a) by Descent - Article 122(1) of the Constitution of Singapore
(b) by Registration Article 124(2) of the Constitution of Singapore
Application for the citizenship of a child must be done before the child reaches one year old. If the Father of the child is a Singapore citizen born in Singapore, please complete Form SCRM. For all other applications, please complete Form SCRA. Please send us a self-addressed stamped return envelope (size A4) for the required application form. Please indicate outside the envelope the type of form and the quantity required. Please note that the application form should be duly notorized before a Notary Public for submission to the High Commission together with the following documents:-
- Copy of childs birth certificate showing names of both parents
- Copy of father/mothers Singapore birth/citizenship certificate
- Copy of parents marriage certificate
- Particulars of childs other siblings Singapore birth certificate or Singapore citizenship certificate (if any)
- Two photographs of the child
- Letter of Employment from parents employer with details on occupation and salary
- Copies of both parents educational certificates/diplomas
- A self-addressed envelope with registered or security postage to ensure the safe return of your documents. (Note: We prefer that the documents be collected in person at our office. However, if this is not possible, they could be sent to you by courier or registered post.)
Please make payment in the form of Australian Money Order of A$133.00 in favour of the "Singapore High Commission, Canberra" (fee is subjected to change without notice). The processing time will take a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks upon the date of receipt.
Once your application is approved, a Citizenship Certificate will be issued to your child. You will be notified in writing once the application is successful. The certificate and all supporting documents that have been submitted in connection with the application will be returned to the applicant, using the self-addressed envelope provided or the courier service nominated by the applicant. Please note that we are not responsible for any document lost in the mail or courier.
